Chet Bhasin, FACHE, MBA, MS, joined the Shepherd Center senior management team in February 2017 as chief operations officer and was promoted to the chief strategy officer role in April 2019. Before joining Shepherd Center, Chet served as the director of back/spine, orthopedics and post-acute services at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Chet provided leadership in physician relations, revenue enhancement, cost reduction, regulatory compliance and project oversight in various services and programs. Before joining Texas Health, Chet held several administrative leadership roles of increased responsibilities in Kindred Healthcare facilities in Texas and Illinois.

Amy Baxter, MD, Founder & CEO - Pain Care Labs

Pediatric emergency physician and pain researcher Amy Baxter, MD founded Pain Care Labs in 2006 with the mission to eliminate unnecessary pain. She invented and patented VibraCool® Vibrational Cryotherapy to treat tendinopathies and decrease opioid use; her disruptive Buzzy® device has been used to control needle pain for over 32 million needle procedures. Her Oscillice™ technology is proven in 30+ RCTs, and was named "Industry Leader in Noninvasive Pain relief" by Frost & Sullivan.

Dr. Baxter funded her neuromodulation pain-reduction platform with SBIR NIH grants. She has received 8 patents, and novel FDA 510K indications for treating muscle and injection pain.

Vic Gatto – CEO & Founder, Jumpstart Foundry

Innovation Insight: Successfully Growing Healthcare Startups

Vic has been an investor in healthcare and technology since 2001. He has made over 200 investments in early-stage innovation companies in the areas of healthcare services, medical devices, diagnostic tools, technology, and data analytics. 

Vic co-founded Jumpstart Health Investors in 2014. Designed to be a new type of healthcare investment platform, the firm leverages four complimentary business units to covey and unfair advantage to investors, innovators and industry. 

Before Jumpstart, Vic served as a Partner at two different VC firms, focusing his investment activity primarily in healthcare services and technology. In the 1990s, before switching to the investor side of the table, Vic co-founded and subsequently sold a software company. 

Vic was the seed investor in Change Healthcare. He helped grow the company from a concept to the multi-billion enterprise it is today. Vic served on the Board of Directors for seven years. He also joined Change in a full-time capacity as President during a critical transition period. As President, Vic helped the original Founders define the skills needed to lead the company forward. He then recruited a two-person team of Chairman and CEO to leave a large publicly-traded healthcare company to lead the growth of Change Healthcare.

Cherie Kloss, CEO – SnapNurse 

Cherie Kloss has an 18-year history of working in the medical field as a contract anesthetist. She has a PRN-Per Diem Nurse agency in the Atlanta area (SnapNurse). Kloss partnered with Edwin Marcial, the former and founding CTO of Intercontinental Exchange and built a technology platform (InstaStaff) to book, manage and instantly pay PRN-Per Diem workers efficiently, decreasing the HR workforce needed to manage thousands of booking hours in multiple locations. InstaCred 2.0, a blockchain credentialing platform is her next project with release scheduled for late 2019. 



Isabelle Magnin, MBA, PMP, Open Innovation Leader, Center for Disruption & Innovation - Navicent Health

As Navicent Health’s Open Innovation Leader, Isabelle builds partnerships with established companies, startups, scientific organizations, and communities to co-develop consumer centered solutions and to solve for strategic priorities.

Isabelle also leads innovation commercialization efforts and launched Flex Health with a joint venture partner, an innovative staffing company valued at over $20M.

Zach Pousman, CEO - Helpfully

Zach has built a career pursuing tomorrow’s best ideas. Zach founded Helpfully, an R&D consultancy that focuses on understanding emerging social trends and technology leaps to power new business ideas.

Zach serves as the chief design researcher at Helpfully, carefully working to develop insights into human behaviors and attitudes. He uses quant and qual methods to dig into the ways people live, work, earn, shop, heal, and relax. Then he leads teams build the insights and vision into elegant services and product experiences.

Over his career, Zach has led digital work for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, UCB Biopharma, Allstate, Kroger, iShares, and Google and dozens of startups. Zach holds a Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago, and did advanced graduate work at Georgia Tech, blending anthropological techniques, design, and technology studies.



Chris Protos, Global Innovation Lead – UCB

Chris is inspired by the stories of people living with chronic diseases to solve the toughest challenges in healthcare. As the global innovation lead for UCB, a pharmaceutical company based in Belgium,  he uses a human-centered design approach develop innovative, non-drug solutions that deliver the best individual experience for patients.  Informed by his work in the US, Europe, and Asia, Chris is developing a vision for a future world where all of the actors along the patient journey collaborate to change the way healthcare works. Over his nearly 20 year career, Chris has held various innovation, design, and user research roles including stops at Accenture, North Highland Company, and Merial.



Ken Robbins, CEO - Response Mine Health

Ken Robbins is the CEO and Founder of Response Mine Health, a marketing agency that helps healthcare and wellness companies grow their new customers and patients.

Since 2001, RMI has served healthcare clients including Liberty Medical, Hoveround, Back Pain Centers of America and MedExpress, Wake Forest, Emory Health, Mayo Clinic and many other health, wellness and retail clients.

With over twenty years of consumer marketing experience, Ken’s thought leadership has been featured in Strategic Health Care Marketing, Internet Health Management. Ragan's Health Care Communication News, Healthcare Call Center Times, AMA, Healthcare Dive and the Journal of mHealth.

Nikhil Shah, DO, MPH, System Chief for Minimally Invasive and Intelligent Surgery – Piedmont Healthcare 

Dr. Nikhil L. Shah currently serves as the System Chief for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at Piedmont Health Care based in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Shah has performed thousands of minimal access and robotic procedures with specific expertise in Genitourinary Oncology and urinary tract reconstruction. In addition, his interest and expertise in Minimal Access procedures allows patients the opportunity to consider treatment options that are less invasive.

Dr. Shah is the recipient of numerous awards and has authored many peer-reviewed publications. He is acknowledged as an established leader in minimally invasive surgical applications. He holds an adjunct Professorship at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Shah serves as the President and Founder of the Men’s Health and Wellness Center of Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization that works towards educating and informing men in disease prevention. Dr. Shah has made several appearances on CNN with Dr. Sanjay Gupta regarding Robotic Surgery and Men’s Health. In addition, Dr. Shah serves as an active advisor to industry involved with innovative technology, medical devices, simulation and new surgical training applications. 



Brent Wheeler, Co-founder & Board Member of Ancillon Health, and Founder of Back Pain Centers of America 

Since 2003, Brent has helped multiple companies with his consultative approach and a firm understanding of direct response principles, creating strategies that drove strong financial returns to companies like Liberty Medical and Life Line Screening. He also has a long history of helping entrepreneurial orthopedic practices, such as Laser Spine Institute and North American Spine, pioneering the concept of applying retail marketing tactics into the healthcare space. 

In 2015, Brent created Back Pain Centers of America. By fusing digital marketing with advanced call center methods and systems, Brent’s spine centers increased patient volume by more than 300%, while lowering cost per acquisition. 

Brent has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing from University of North Georgia.  Brent enjoys traveling and has visited 37 countries. When he is not traveling, he spends time with his family and 2 golden doodles.
